Rules & Safety

Breakthrough’s Big Bike Ride for mental health research uses public roads and shared bike paths that are open to general traffic and other people and cyclists throughout the ride.

All riders must abide by the road rules and obey police directions. All normal road rules apply, unless otherwise directed by a SAPOL Officer. For your safety, as well as the safety of other cyclists, volunteers, local residents and the general community, please follow the safety advice below:

  • Abide by the road rules. This includes, but is not limited to, adhering to speed limits, obeying traffic signals and remaining on the left-hand side of the road at all times

  • Listen to and obey directions from Police, traffic controllers and course marshals

  • Always ride in the same direction as traffic on the left-hand side of the road

  • It is the rider’s responsibility to familiarise themselves with the course map before the ride
